How to create a barcode
Creating an image is not the same as assigning a product number. Start with a value you are allowed to use, then encode it.
Checklist
- Choose the format required by the receiving system (UPC-A, EAN-13, Code 128, Code 39 or ISBN-13).
- Enter the value exactly, preserving leading zeroes and meaningful letter case.
- Resolve any format or check-digit error before using the preview.
- Download PNG, SVG or PDF and test the printed result with the actual scanner and software.
Print checklist
- Keep a clear quiet zone on either side of a linear barcode.
- Use clean, high-contrast print; do not stretch, clip or place text across the bars.
- Do not cut down retail EAN/UPC bar height just to fit a design.
- Print at 100% scale; confirm module width and bar height before a full batch.
- PNG resolution matters at final size; SVG scales without raster pixelation; PDF is a document, not proof of a scan.
